I have survived Mardi Gras. Just to get everyone up to date, the flight school took four planes to Mardi Gras this weekend and several clients/students. The flight instructors went along to keep everything safe. The flight was uneventful for all 18.8 hours round trip.
We flew to KSTJ for our first fuel stop. That morning we had some weather that was about 30 nm to the west of our course. N1090W was the Cessna 172 that I was flying in. Both of the clients with me wanted to file IFR and get some radio work. We departed KFSD at 8:30am and arrived at KSTJ at approximately 11:00 am. As we were getting vectors to final the weather caught us and we had to load the Localizer BC for 18 and continue with the approach since we were just outside of the FAF. The FBO finished fuel both planes and by that time the weather had passed. The next airport was 3DW which was a very interesting place to land with all the obstacles surrounding the airport and the stiff cross wind. After landing we decided to land at KSGF on the way back. Our next stop was KELD. This airport was a very nice stop and friendly to our needs of fuel and snacks. The last stop was KNEW where we were going to keep the planes till Monday morning. We arrived at KNEW at around 8:30pm, so a very nice day of flying. KNEW is at 8 feet MSL and outside of the flood walls. Millionaire was very nice and hospitable to us little guys.
Here was my first day walking the streets of the French Quarter around Jackson Square
